Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stage?

Research

During the research process, I used YouTube regularly to watch music videos for music videos that follow a mini story. This was particularly useful as it enabled me to understand what conventions I had to follow. YouTube also allowed for me to view work from other students who have also done a music video. I also used the search engine Google to access multiple websites that gave me help and information.

Planning

I placed silhouette placeholders in iMovie, which allowed for me to see the music video taking shape before taking my shots whilst also creating a simple to use storyboard. By creating this storyboard, a sense of structure was made and I had the ability to replace these placeholders with real shots as my filming progressed. To familiarise myself with software I’d be using for the evaluation questions, I created a multiple short practice responses to a question with the iMac GarageBand and Photo Booth with the assistance of I movie in the form of a podcast and vlog. This gave me the ability to implement images to my podcast and vlog to give a visual representation of what I am talking about. I was also able to stop the recording whenever necessary, which helped me, become more flexible with my recording. I regularly used blogger to record my progress during the creation of my music video. Blogger is a useful tool because it enables me to effectively organise all my work in a single place.

Construction

Whilst constructing my music video, I used a Cannon Legria HD camera to record my footage. As it records at a smooth 60fps. The fact that it was handheld proved to be a helpful factor as I was able to closely match conventions and shots of a music video. For example, my camera man was able to get into a bush in the distance to film a particular part of my video as I wanted a very long shot and that was the furthest point away from the cliff as possible. I used a tripod for shots of which required stillness or slow panning or zooming. The tripod allows for a lot of freedom with its adjustments in height and angles to ensure that I was capable of achieving the shot I desired. iMovie was a useful application on the Apple Macs as it allowed a straightforward method to create and produce a music video. It allowed me to precisely cut clips to guarantee that the timing of each shot was perfect. I was able to add music, transitions, text for titles and slow or speed up shots or place them in reverse. For my ancillary tasks, I took pictures using a Cannon still camera or took screen shots from my film and this ensured that I had high quality images to enable me to begin editing.

Evaluation

While evaluating my work i used slide share which was a vey useful bit of media technology to use as it allowed my to create a powerpoint and upload it online to use it to answer on of my questions, I also used photo booth and I movie to create a VLOG response to one of my questions as this allowed me to record myself and also to edit what I had recorded to make it professional. I used blogger to upload and publish my answers allowing it to be view from wherever.

Stage 6 final adjustments

Today I added the final adjustment to the poster to make it look more professional which was the record companys logo to show the audience who produced the music.

 Finally I have added the date that the album will be released staying true to the style models way of showing it. It is in big bold lettering to catch the audiences attention.

I have also added a website address at the bottom to give the audience a place to go to buy the album.

 I have now added in the words that will go into my black space that are used to tempt the audience to purchase the album, I have thought of other song titles that link to the name of the album to show that the album will have structure to it

Title effects use

 This is what Happens when I removed the bevel and emboss effect from the title, as you can see the outline from the title goes very thin as the bevel and emboss is used to bring the word to life on the page

  The Stroke effect put a thin layer of black around the edge of the words it is used on crateing a base layer for the other effects. so removing is also gets rid of the bevel and emboss as there isnt anything for it to work with, leaving the drop shadow only on the words

I have now added My albums title into the poster while using synergy to have the exact same font and effects as the one i have used on my CD cover to Achieve this i have used stroke, drop shadow and bevel and emboss

I have now placed a place shape across the bottom of the page The same size as the one used in my style models poster i will use this for a blank canvas to put the words on top.

I have chosen to use this image which is a screen shot taken from my video as the central image on my album poster as i feel that the image illustrates what the album is about which is opening up to the world and the actor looks like he is embracing the world with his arms.

Poster Style Model

I have chose to use Ariana Grande's My Everything Album poster for my style model as i think it is a very simple concept but is very eye catching.

For the final closing shot of my video i decided to put a shot of the actor sat on a rock inside the cove looking out into the distance to show that he had found peace and freedom within himself at the cove. The final clip of lip-syncing is used to show that because of his new found peace that he doesn't care about what people say now as he is confident in himself hens the show of his two middle fingers to the camera as the shot pans out.

I then placed this shot with a slow motion affect on it on the words "Act like you know me" to ask a question to the listener if they really do know the true side of the artist or not, the shot of the actor allows the video to come back to reality.

For this section i have inserted a lot of text to pan the lyrics across the screen as they are getting sung to allow the audience to get a full understanding of the song and see what the words mean with the emotion of the actor behind them.
